The Harps Journey

From Medieval to Modern, from Classical to Jazz, from Acoustic to Electric. The harp is an instrument steeped in tradition yet open to change and for many, it is more than a mere instrument, it is a calling. Louise Johnson shares this musical journey from the earliest harps of Egypt and Africa, taking you along the Silk Rd to Europe meeting up with Brian Boru, Queen Elizabeth 1, Handel, Turlough O’Carolan, Bochsa, Hasselmans, Debussy, travelling to South America with Ortiz, Australia and Kats-Chernin, New York and Gershwin and beyond the stratosphere with her blue electric harp.
Playing 6 different types of harps Louise will also share stories of her own musical journey, including playing with the Bee Gees, accompanying Margot Fonteyn, working with the London Symphony and of course her 35 year sojourn with the Sydney Symphony.
